Water levels in the streams were low but are beginning to rise with the snowmelt. Few anglers were out but a couple did manage to catch some brown trout when trolling spoons and plugs. On the east side of the bay from Quanicassee to Bay Port, walleye anglers were fishing all over the bay but no one had great success as most boats came in with only 2 or 3 fish. Fishing on the east side was slow at Vanderbilt Park. The water temperature is averaging in the high 60s to low 70s and the water clarity has really improved. The remaining fish should run and spawn fairly quickly so anglers may find more steelhead for the trout opener this weekend. The Bass fishing has slowed down some from last week but still can get some explosive strikes on a variety of top water lures from Buzzbaits to Frogs early in the morning and late in the evening. Bluegills and the occasional crappie were taken on small jigs with spikes, wax worms or wigglers. While out on Lake Seminole we noticed the Bream and Shellcracker are still bedding all over…. We went fishing for them last night and only got about 30 between 4 of us. 30 pounds and we only fished half a day!!!! As for the walleye opener, try Croton Pond and Hardy Pond. In the West Bay, perch fishing was excellent at Northport in 40 to 80 feet on both live bait and artificial baits. At 27,690 acres and 315 miles of shoreline, Lake Fork was designed a premier bass fishing lake and currently holds records for 34 out of the Top 50 largemouth bass caught in Texas. The Elk River was slow with only a couple steelhead taken on spawn in the early morning or late afternoon. Smaller inland lakes in the area are providing panfish opportunities. Those heading out should take a spud to test the ice ahead of you. Saginaw Bay: The perch spawning period in the inner bay is about over, but walleye fishing is just getting started.
